Time-of-Use Adjustments
We wanted to make you aware of SoCal Edison's recent efforts to better align its rates with underlying costs the utility incurs. Below are some of the upcoming changes that the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) recently approved:
- New time-of-use (TOU) periods, including a new On-Peak period (when electric prices are highest) from 4:00 to 9:00 PM on summer weekdays (June to September).
- Introduction of a Super-Off-Peak period (when electric prices are lowest) every day from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM throughout the 8-month winter season (October to May).
- Introduction of time-differentiated weekend and holiday rate periods.
As we approach the March 2019 effective date, Ecom-Energy will keep you updated with more details and resources to help you along in your pursuit of energy excellence.
TAKEAWAY
The increasing prevalence of solar energy in California is leading to very cheap electricity when the sun is shining brightest. Consequently, peak periods are shifting to later times in the day as the sun goes down and solar production decreases.
